Third term is over and the AMEB exams and the footy grand finals; next it'll be Melbourne Cup Day and before you know it it'll be Christmas and 2009! We usually have some end of year celebration for the Academy students when they finish their busy year and also for our friends of the Con. Check the "dates for your diary" section inside but we will keep you posted.

Since our last newsletter we have had our Annual Open Day and the Con Concert at the Lismore Workers Club. Both were very successful and well attended events. See report and pictures inside.

Our Music Certificate IV and Diploma students have had a busy year, as always, with a full study schedule and playing regular gigs at the Winsome Hotel every second Thursday. If you didn't catch this year's talented group at the Lismore Show try The Backroom of The Great Northern Hotel in Byron Bay on three successive Wednesday's in October, see inside for dates and fare at "a taste of the con". There are not many weeks left before now the students sit their final exams and leave us on the 19th November. We wish them well with their future studies and in their music careers. Those returning for another year with us we look forward to seeing next year.

We have once again run a successful Music Business course this year. The students have either assisted or organised the events mentioned above and we thank them for their commitment and support of the Con’s events and activities.

Our Certificate IV in Screen has been as popular this year as it was last year. These students will be leaving us at the end of the year, but because of demand we have completed an extension to our scope so that we can teach a Diploma in Screen course. Students from these two years can now advance their studies and develop their talents and skills. We are hoping to run a Screen course again next year. Check inside for exciting news of two Screen grads.

You may have noticed a few changes in the grounds. We removed a couple of large and ailing camphor laurel trees. Some rooms are noticeably hotter since they have been gone but a couple of walls have straightened up a little. Next year we will be installing a root barrier to forestall any further subsidence caused by our thirsty big trees. A discreet tree planting ceremony is planned in the near future, with more appropriately sized trees.

September is a big month for the Admin staff. It's when all the paper work and planning has to be completed in order to acquit the previous year's grants from the Department of Education and Training and to submit our applications for next years funding. Added to the usual burden was an extensive survey for a special review into funding of Regional Conservatoriums by a committee of the NSW Government. The Association of NSW Regional Conservatoriums, of which there are 17 throughout the state, has tendered a joint submission for an increase in funding, which has remained static since 2001.

Thanks as always to our hardworking teachers and admin staff who keep the place ticking along.
